“We sourced intricate embroidered brocade from Ghana, embroidered silk from India, and embroidered lace from Europe and Asia. My passion is taking a fabric that is worn in a traditional way and making it into a garment embraced internationally.
TeKay Designs at Live Out Loud Charity Chicago

Instead of manifesting the status quo, I study fabrics worn by folks in other countries and design a gown that transcends continents by employing design elements embraced by women especially in developed nations.

I design not only the gown but the complete look including the headpieces and jewelry to be worn with the dress.

TeKay Designs at Live Out Loud Charity 3rd Annual Chicago Fashion ShowMy designs are statement pieces, works of art and made to leave a lasting impression with the viewer.  This uncanny ability is not found in a text book. It is the result of years of travel to various countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, trips to museums and the library, reading about culture and fashion history, working with people in other countries including my production team in Ghana, studying consumer tastes and trends, and sourcing fabrics globally.” states Fashion Designer Kimma Wreh of TeKay Designs.

My collection is an infusion of Egyptian, African, Spanish, European, American and Indian design concepts inspired by royalty. At this event, we released two new dresses that can be worn to a pageant or red carpet occasion. Our designs uplift women by making them feel like a queen.” states Fashion Designer Kimma Wreh of TeKay Designs.

“Queen of the Brides” Royalty Themed Gowns at Fashion Week in New York

TeKay Designs, a couture house based in Houston, brought the elegance and regalness of historic monarchs to fashion week in New York. This season TeKay Designs presented Queen of the Brides, a collection of gowns with accessories that are historic and have a cultural significance during Couture fashion show in New York. The design concepts are sophisticated shapes in luxury fabrics, textures and colors. The label’s unique selection of bridal gowns caters to the bride who values culture and yearns to be unique.

TeKay’s show opened with an acoustic chorus sound track, chromatic luminance and a branded light projection. Diversity was applied to model selection as each model graced the catwalk with authoritarian elegance. While some gowns are accented with colorful embroidery, other gowns cast an angelic shimmer of beading as a decorative finish. The Queen of the Brides collection represents inspirational women of royalty from various cultures throughout history. The collection exemplifies cultures, as each gown represents a woman of royalty who has left an indelible mark on humanity.

TeKay Designs Inc. announces the launch of Queen of The Brides gown collection and new website during runway presentations in Houston and Dallas, Texas.

“Queen of the Brides” is a limited edition collection that features historical couture bridal gowns complete with jewelry and headpieces, a staple of Tekay Designs’ aesthetic. TeKay has been diligently creating ethnic bridal gown concepts that personify royalty.

The inspiration for the Queen of the Brides collection are historical fashion icons from ancient civilizations of Egypt, India, and South Africa.

The gowns represent women of power throughout history and are infused with cultural elements from a distinct time in history.

The initial collection includes gowns named after Queen Nefertiti of Egypt, Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt, Queen Cleopatra Selene II of Egypt, Queen Ankhesenamun of Egypt, Mumtaz Mahal – Mughal Queen of India, and Manta Tisi – The Queen of the Wild Cats in South Africa.

Title #10

Each bridal ensemble is worn with a headpiece or veil, jewelry and elaborate embroidery or beading stitched onto the gown. The fabrics include silk, embroidered lace, beaded Dupioni silk,  Duchesse satin, Poe de Soua, Aso-ake, Vintage lace trim, crystal and rhinestone trim.

The dominant colors in the collection are gold and silver which is symbolic. In ancient Egypt, yellow was the symbol of gold and immortality, white represented happiness.  Necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and anklets were made of gold, coral, pearl, agate, and onyx.  Collars made of shells, beads, and precious stones set into gold were worn as a necklace or attached to a neckline made of cloth or leather.

Title #2

To accommodate themed ceremonies, each ensemble can have a matching gown set for the brides’ maids and suits for grooms men.

“To embrace historic culture in present day ceremonies is very meaningful and symbolic. To know your past is to know your future. Cultural themes set a forward thinking tone of confidence and success for a groom and his queen,” says Creative Director Kimma Wreh.
